BMW, Toyota to Collaborate on Hybrid Sportscar

The first fruit of an alliance between BMW and Toyota will be a two-seat sports car that will bring performance-boosting supercapacitor technology to a series-production model for the first time.

The Toyota-BMW partnership has been making the news recently. So I decided To Post About it. To bring you up to speed, BMW and Toyota announced that they have signed a technical partnership between them. Toyota will stand to benefit when BMW will share its diesel technology. BMW on the other hand will get benefits from the Hybrid technology, which already exists and Toyota has in a way mastered it. Toyota makes great petrol engines but if you see their market stance globally, their diesels have a lot of room for improvement. Honda now has its own lineup of diesel engines. Toyota needs diesel engines to survive in markets like India, China and Brazil. So this partnership is great for both the car manufacturers.

They reveal one thing; Toyota is helping BMW develop the new Z4. Yes, indeed. The new BMW z4 is expected to be lighter, shorter, nimble and more efficient than the current one. It may may use the hybrid power train borrowed or co-developed from the Toyota – Lexus group.

Toyota is aiming for a joint project in the development of battery-powered cars, Yasumori Ihara, a senior managing officer, said today at a Tokyo press conference. BMW will supply Toyota with 1.6-liter and 2-liter engines for the Japanese company’s models in Europe starting in 2014.
Under its new “i” sub-brand, BMW plans to introduce its first electric-powered model, the i3 city car, later this year. The vehicle will be followed by the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, which is scheduled to go on sale in 2014.

The sportscar will be one of a series of future BMW-Toyota projects to use common engineering solutions and shared components, according to officials. Shared platform structures and contemporary new hybrid drivelines are also planned.

Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo.

Toyota has Relaunched a limited edition version of the Fortuner TRD Sportivo. The TRD Sportivo variant will get cosmetic changes, which apparently make the SUV look sporty. Toyota will only sell 400 units of this limited edition SUV It is based on the TRD Sportivo 4x4 manual variant and gets dual-tone front and rear bumper spoilers, a new grille with a TRD badge, a rear roof spoiler, TRD badging on the sides, and a TRD badge on the rear. There are no changes to the mechanicals.

It is a bit hard to believe that Toyota’s Racing Development division has had anything to do with this SUV, the point in case being that the additions made to the SUV do not improve its performance and handling in any way whatsoever. The changes made are just a styling job, and you will not find any difference between the normal variants of the Fortuner and the Fortuner TRD Sportivo apart from the stickers and the faux ‘sports’ parts. The Fortuner TRD Sportivo is available only in two colours – Super White and Silver Mica Metallic.

You can Enjoy it At a Price of 24.26 Lakh.

Rukmini placed to find Malasian Jet

The Indian Navy is said to be utilising the services of the country’s first military satellite Rukmini/GSAT-7 to track the missing Malaysian airline MH 370 in the Bay of Bengal after Malaysia requested India to help scour major regions of the Indian Ocean.
The satellite launched in August 2013, designed, built and fabricated in Bangalore, is meant for exclusive use by the Navy, although the defence forces can utilise its services.

The satellite has been deployed for protection of maritime and international interests around Malacca Straits and the Bay of Bengal on the south eastern side, as well as the Hormuz Straits in the western region.
It is meant for communications and surveillance of activities and intelligence gathering in the eastern, southern and western regions of the Indian Ocean and can reach up to 2,000 nautical miles.
The question about its use came in the backdrop of Nasa having declared that it would aid countries in the search for the missing airline. China already having deployed 10 satellites for use brought up the question whether India’s space assets could also be used.

Now that Malaysia has sent in a request to India to cover major regions of the Indian Ocean, the Navy is said to be utilising its services.
What the satellite may pick up, no one is clear. Experts say the satellite cannot have a clear image of the aircraft from such a height because the aircraft would be a speck.

However, with hope and a positive attitude, around 12 countries are doing everything they can. India was also requested to help in the multi-nation search.
Rukmini plays an important role in networking the entire Navy — from warships to patrol vessels, to submarines to aircrafts so that the Navy is secure in its communications within a single communication system.

5 Next-Gen Games Coming Up

“The Order: 1886,” TBD 2014 –:

Developed by Irvine, Calif.-based game developer Ready at Dawn, “The Order: 1886” will hit shelves for the PlayStation 4 in fall 2014. The action-adventure title is set in an alternate history where an ancient order of knights are responsible for keeping the world safe from half-human, half-animal monsters. Set in the 19th century, the story focuses on the war between King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table engaging in battle with the monsters. A supernatural substance called black water is discovered, allowing the knights to heal themselves and extend their lives.

“Final Fantasy XV,” TBD 2014 –:

The latest endeavor from Square Enix doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but it will contain a darker and more realistic setting than previous “Final Fantasy” titles. “FF XV” has no direct relation to other titles in the series and will feature completely different characters and a different world. The game will feature a party-based battle system similar to the one seen in the “Kingdom Hearts” series and will allow for a party of three members.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture (PS4)-:

Weaving a hearty does of mystery, narrative and exploration into a first-person adventure package, The Chinese Room’s next game is too intriguing not to make it onto this list.
Following in the footsteps of their last project (2012’s excellent Dear Esther), this game’s story ‘begins with the end of the world’. Set during an apocalypse, you take control of a lone scientist who must uncover what on earth went wrong.
A post on the PlayStation Blog reveals that Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture will experiment with non-linear environments which react to your decisions, and the developer’s track-record guarantees that each will be littered with fantastically written secrets.

“Tom Clancy’s The Division,” TBD 2014 –: The upcoming online multiplayer third-person shooter will be available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Created by Ubisoft Massive, the setting is a post-apocalyptic New York City, where players explore the destroyed metropolis while facing attacks from warring groups. “The Division” will feature Massive Entertainment’s Snowdrop engine, which the company calls “a dynamic, interconnected and united system. The artists, the designer and the animators have the power to achieve their ideas…by accessing the game directly within the engine.” Snowdrop will run in real time, allowing each experience – a window shattering, a car exploding – to be different every time.

Fable Legends (Xbox One)

Describing the latest Fable as a mere dungeon-crawler takes the sting from its tail; this is an adventure where the villain (controlled by another player) takes an equally starring role, throwing down enemies and cunning traps for four players to battle their way through.
Promising the same blend of quirky humour and action that the series has become well known for, it’s an eye-catching smorgasbord of the new and the whimsical old.
We’ve seen very little of it thus far, but if Legends lives up to its potential then this is perhaps one of the most enticing reasons to pick up an Xbox One.

Britain to honour WW-I Indian soldiers

Britain to honour WW-I Indian soldiers
                             Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 14

Indian soldiers who fought World War I (1914-1918) will be honoured by the United Kingdom through a series of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the battle this year.
The British High Commission, along with the United Service Institution (USI) of India, has planned a series of events. One of the biggest events will be at the British High Commissioner's residence here on October 30. Leading dignitaries and representatives from India, UK and other countries involved in WW-I will be invited.
Said High Commissioner of Britain to India, Sir James Bevan, "One million Indian soldiers fought the war and over 70,000 Indian servicemen died. We intend to honour their memory this year with an important series of events.”
Events will be organised in the UK, India and around the world and will see the participation of representatives from every country whose soldiers took part in the historic war. The tribute will include publication of regimental diaries.
“This will be a commemoration, not a celebration. Our aim is to show respect and gratitude to those who died and to their families and to ensure that today's young people learn the facts and the lessons of that conflict and to promote a common resolve among all nations involved in WW-I to ensure a peaceful and just world for future generations,” the High Commissioner said.
Besides the Indian Army, the Navy also played a significant role in the war. Indians also served in the Army Flying Corps and several won military honours, including the highest military honour, Victoria Cross, an official said.

It is the seventh installment in the Fast and the Furious film series. Action star Jason Statham joins the franchise and Dwayne Johnson returns once again in this 7th installment, which will return to LA as the location of the story. The tragic death of Paul Walker at the end of November was a huge blow to his family, friends and fans, and counted among them are the cast and crew of Fast & Furious 7, which was roughly halfway through filming when Walker’s sad passing occurred. Universal Studios respectfully announced that production would be delayed, but was looking for options for how to finish the film in time for its previously planned release date of July 11th, 2014 in a respectful manner. As the producers, director James Wan and the studio scrambled to find a way to deliver the film for its summer 2014 release, one thing apparently became clear: the seventh installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise was not to meet that already-rushed date. Walker’s friend and co-star Vin Diesel took to his Facebook page to spread the news that the film has been moved to 2015.

Rembrandt honored with limited-edition Bugatti Veyron

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn is widely recognized as one of the greatest painters and printmakers to have ever lived. No mean feat, to be sure, but why is Bugatti celebrating his life and work with the special-edition Veyron 16.4

Well, it turns out that the supercar maker hasn't suddenly developed a taste for old Dutch masters: the newest car in the six-part “Les Légendes de Bugatti” (“The Legends of Bugatti”) series is named after Rembrandt Bugatti, brother of Ettore and noted sculptor. Rembrandt Bugatti is known for his rather expressive animal sculptures; he created the triumphant elephant seen on the hood of the famous Bugatti Type 41 Royale.
As with the other Legends series models, the Rembrandt edition will be produced in a limited run of three cars. Though Bugatti says each car will cost more than $3,000,000, we don't think they'll have any trouble finding new homes: The first nine Legends series cars have already been spoken for.
The interior itself is light brown -- Bugatti calls the color “cognac” -- and you'll see a bronze-cast tribute to Rembrandt's famous elephant sculpture in the center console.

The sides get extra plastic cladding around the door hinges, handles and the glasshouse area. The wheel arches also get plastic cladding that integrates with the running board enhancing the off-road look on the SUV. The car gets 16-inch tyres wrapped on 5-spoke chrome alloys.

The vehicle also gets twin exhaust tips. The interior gets contemporary features like a touchscreen infotainment system, home theatre like audio visuals, mood lighting, heads up display and independent TFT screens for the rear seats. The interiors get a two-tone finish with brushed aluminium accents while the upholstery is done up in genuine leather, adding a premium touch. Mahindra has also provided map and bottle holders on the doors.

India, Russia to sign deal for anti-tank ammunition

India is expected to sign a deal with Russia to procure 66,000 Mango anti-tank shells to meet the shortfall of critical ammunition faced by its armoured fleet including the latest T-90 tanks.
The Cabinet Committee on Security headed by the Prime Minister recently cleared the proposal to acquire 66,000 tank shells from Russia and the deal in this regard is expected to be inked in next few days, Defence Ministry sources revealed.
Under the deal, Russia will also do transfer of technology on the production techniques of the specialised tank ammunition to the Ordnance Factory Board, which will produce it indigenously, they said.
Faced with shortage of weapon systems, the Defence Ministry has decided to form JVs with the Russian manufacturers to produce them in India like the rockets for the Smerch multi-barrel rocket launcher systems.
The severe shortage of tank ammunition was first highlighted by former Army Chief Gen V K Singh in a top secret letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in March this year which later found its way to the media.
Gen Singh had pointed out in his letter that only three to four days of this particular ammunition was left in the inventory of the armoured regiments.
Later on, the Army had also informed the Standing Committee on Defence about the shortage and how the situation had worsened by the recent blacklisting of its supplier Israeli Military Industry (IMI).

Inception                                                  Inception-Movie-Poster-2-411X600-1

Christopher Nolan is known for creating mind-boggling, eccentric plots and mesmerizing screenplay, but Inception has to be his greatest piece to date. With an all-star cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Joesph-Gordon Levitt, Michael Caine and Cillian Murphy amongst others, Inception is the intriguing look into the world of dream theft and how our world can be so easily manipulated when we lie in bed every night. A particular scene in the film shows off the visual effects to a stunning level when Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character, Arthur, is running down a revolving corridor in zero gravity. This scene was filmed with an actual corridor placed on a revolving axis, to simulate the anti-gravity effects. Watching the scene alone brings about a excited nausea, I can only imagine what it must have been like to film such a stunt.

Avatar

220Px-Avatar-Teaser-Poster-1

Did you really expect anything else? The only film to gross more than $2 Billion, nearly $3 Billion, and a film that creator James Cameron had to wait seven years for technology to catch up with. Officially budgeted at $237 million, and going on to gross $2,782,275,172, Avatar changed the way filmmakers and cinematographers view the world of camera effects and CGI, and has been called a ‘breakthrough in cinematic technology.’ The film made extensive use of cutting-edge motion capture filming techniques to produce a true 3-D experience, that was filmed entirely in these ground-breaking techniques as opposed to having a 3-D overlay placed on the film at the end for that final drop of profit. The average film is shown in 24 frames per second, and Cameron has already announced his plans to film the sequel to Avatar in 60 frames per second. Cameron has taken CGI and technology in cinema to incredible heights, and he shows no sign of stopping his forging of modern day special effects.

  King Kong

 220Px-Kingkong Bigfinal1
With a budget of $207 million dollars, the special effects in King Kong still remain some of the most amazing ever used. Peter Jackson brought Kong to life through his intuitive screenplay and some help form the versatile Andy Serkis in his role as Kong. For his performance, Serkis donned a full suit in the shape of a gorilla in which he would act out the Kong motions and behavioral patterns. Serkis’ performance as Kong earned him significant praise and Jackson’s adaptation of this into the film was also praised. King Kong was criticized for its three hour running time, but the epic fantasy adventure is still adored by loyal fans and Kong is still one of the most lifelike fictional creatures ever to appear on screen.

3 Most anticipated Games of 2014

Thief

February 25 for PS3 / PS4 / XB360 / XB1 / PC

As that simple title suggests, this Thief is a reboot of the stealth action series that began back in 1998 and last gave us Deadly Shadows a full decade ago. You play once again as the master thief Garrett, who uses his wits and stealth moves to steal from the rich in a steampunk-inspired fantasy world (that also happens to be suffering from a bit of the plague). Garrett will be played by a different actor this time, whose movements were incorporated into the game via motion capture.

The Sims 4

tbd fall for PC EXCLUSIVE

It's time to brush up on your Simlish. EA's massively successful and surprisingly compelling furniture-buying/TV-watching/house-cleaning/sleeping simulation The Sims returns for its fourth go-around this fall, and it already seems to have learned at least one lesson from the publisher's disastrous SimCity reboot: it will be a completely offline, single-player game. (Of course, your Sims 3 saves won't carry over to the new game, but that's a different story.)Sims 4 will have a greater focus on emotions—whatever those are—and will undoubtedly be followed by a half dozen expensive expansions in the coming years.

Dark Souls II

March 11 for PS3 / XB360 | tbd spring for PC

A sequel to the notoriously challenging 2011 action-RPG game Dark Souls, Dark Souls II retains the previous game's controls and extreme difficulty level, but puts you in a world that's twice as large. (It's a completely different setting than the prior game.) Sure, the early going is reported to be "more accessible" to newcomers, but rest assured that the game was designed to be hard. Note that while the PC release has been delayed slightly, the PC version should be much stronger out of the gate than the previous game (which required modding to improve the graphics).

Samsung's first flexible phone to arrive in shape of Galaxy Round this week?

It's looking likely that Samsung will jump ahead of LG and announce its rumoured curved display smartphone this week.
We've known that it's been coming for some time, and now Korean media source Asiae is reporting that the handsetwill touch down this week and with the name of the Samsung Galaxy Round, offering a plastic (and therefore more durable) replacement for the glass display.

Just the other day, a mystery Samsung device showed up in benchmarking tests under the name of the SM-G910.
The Snapdragon 800 processor and Adreno 330 graphics chip of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 were spotted on the bill. Meanwhile, previous speculation has suggested the handset will have a smaller 5.5-inch display.
Snap back to reality
Rumoured specs for the Galaxy Round are similar to those of the Galaxy Note 3, and there's no clue about pricing. In other words, it's still very much up in the air.
LG is also believed to be in the flexible phone race, with the G Flexrumoured to be appearing in November.

Microsoft may launch a cheaper Xbox One console in 2014, reports claim

A Microsoft exec has quashed rumours that the company has plans for a cheaper Xbox One. In response to a question about the possibility of a lower-priced console, Microsoft's chief of staff for devices and studios, Aaron Greenberg, said on Twitter: "No, you cannot believe everything you read on the internet.."
Original story below...
Microsoft is reportedly planning to release a cheaper version of its Xbox One console, according to reports on Friday.
A 'senior publishing source' told VG24/7 that a new iteration of the console will arrive later this year, at a lower price point than the current suggested sale price of $499/£429/AU$599.
If the company follows through and drops new hardware this year through, it would also drop the price of the existing Xbox One come to match the less expensive Sony PS4, the report claimed.
The report follows rumours this week claiming Microsoft plans to go public with the white version of the console later this year, which may hit the market with or without an optical drive and a bluetooth adapter.

PS4 hits 6 million consoles sold, 13.7 million games; Xbox One still only around 4 million

Bolstered by opening week sales inJapan, Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold six million units worldwide. Perhaps more importantly, Sony also says that 13.7 million PS4 games have been sold — an attach rate of almost 2.3 games per console — with Killzone: Shadow Fall leading the pack with 2.1 million units sold. The exact number of Xbox Ones sold is unknown, but it’s probably just under four million.
In an official blog post this morning, Sony took the opportunity to offload a bunch of impressive statistics. Six million units sold worldwide. 13.7 million games sold. 90% of PS4s are online — producing 3.6 million live broadcasts, 56 million spectate sessions, and 100 million social shares (via the DualShock 4′s Share button). Apparently 20% of all daily broadcasters on Twitch since January 1 have been PS4 gamers.

Sony also announced today that the PS4 had sold 370,000 units in Japan, in its first week of sales. This is obviously small fry compared tothe one million PS4s sold in the first 24 hours in the US — but do remember that Japan only has around a third of the population of the US. A better comparison is the UK, which has around half the population of Japan, where around 250,000 PS4s were sold in the opening weekend. This still makes Japan’s opening week look weak — though it’s worth pointing out that the PS3 didn’t sell very well in Japan early on, either. The Wii sold around the same number of units in its first week in Japan, and it went on to be a huge success. (The PS2 was the first and last console to truly explode the Japanese market.)
With 2.1 million units sold, Killzone: Shadow Fall is obviously doing its job as a platform exclusive. It will be interesting to see if the Xbox One’s first big exclusive,. Titanfall, which is released next week, can drive a significant increase in console sales. Though, a week later, the PS4 will get its next big exclusive: Infamous: Second Son. The release dates for other big PS4 and Xbox One exclusives haven’t yet been announced, but they are expected to play a fairly big role in deciding who ultimately sells more consoles. Microsoft might also close the widening sales gap if it released the Xbox One in some more markets — and, of course, if its price was cut to directly compete with the PS4.

1TB per disc: Sony and Panasonic team up on next-gen Blu-ray

Digital storage has been moving away from discs for quite some time. Music is kept on our phones rather than in giant CD wallets that get left in the car, important documents are kept in the cloud, and flash drives and cards are becoming ever cheaper and much larger in size. Even video games — the last bastion of optical media — have been moving toward the cloud.

However, games arguably benefit the most from increased storage, and that’s why Sony and Panasonic’s new 300GB disc is extremely promising for the future of gaming.

Back in July last year, Sony and Panasonic announced that they teamed up to develop anew type of archival storage, which was a cartridge stuffed full of 300GB optical discs. While the cartridge format is interesting for professional archival use, the general consumer populace — gamers, people with disc players in their cars, video editors, and so on — could significantly benefit from those 300GB discs contained within.

What’s most interesting for the general consumer is that while Sony and Panasonic originally announced that cartridge back in 2013, the new announcement doesn’t mention it. This could mean that single 300GB discs might actually release as a standalone product.

The single-write 300GB discs are set to launch sometime in 2015, and Sonysonic plans to expand the recording capacity from 300GB, to 500GB and eventually 1TB each. At the moment, the discs are doubled-sided with three layers per side. The same laser wavelength as Blu-ray (405nm) will be used.
Pana-Sony are both experienced in the field of high-capacity optical media, as they both have an extensive history developing and using Blu-ray technology. Though Blu-ray isn’t as popular as DVD once was — mostly thanks to streaming and cloud services — the duo appears to be treating Archival Discs as the Blu-ray’s follow-up. While the high-capacity storage of Blu-ray opened the doors to a much more advanced gaming experience, the cartridge format announced back in 2013 would put a damper on game discs that can hold even more data. However, if the format does only appear in cartridge form, there is still one major way it can affect the future of video games: game streaming.

With Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Now game streaming service, the ability to put a bunch of game data on a cheap storage format will be key to the success of the service. We already know that PS Now will utilize custom hardware that essentially stuffs eight PS3s onto a single motherboard, but there hasn’t been much detail regarding how the games will be stored. It’s entirely possible that Archival Disc cartridges will provide Sony with a cheap way to store all of that game data.
For now, there’s really no telling where the Archival Discs will end up (though Ponysonic specifically notes that it’ll be useful for the film industry), but the initial attempt will release sometime next year. It’s entirely possible that the new format could be used as a cheap way for data centers to store streaming games. It’s also highly likely that the technology they use to reach such high single-disc capacity — mostly super narrow track pitch with crosstalk cancellation technology — could be used in the next generation of consumer-oriented optical disc.

Top 3 Upcoming games with great graphics

3. Dying Light

Dying Light is another upcoming game of 2014 with amazing graphics.not as well known as some of its counterparts here but the game is simply beautiful. It is set to come to Microsoft Windows, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It is basically a new take on the old Zombie Apocalypse story and will release somewhere in 2014.The graphics pay quite a lot of attention to character detail and features an expansive world. Post processing and atmospheric effects are present and heavily used throughout but everything blends in seamlessly. A very good effect everything considered. The only downside if any is that sometimes the asset detail is lacking.

Dying Light developer Techland has said its upcoming zombie survival game will be of a higher quality than Dead Island. "You have to consider that Dead Island was our first open-world game so we had to learn some lessons the hard way," producer Tymon Smektala told Eurogamer during an interview at EGX 2013. "But our level design team has grown three-fold [since then], and the same can be said of our quality assurance team.

Spotlight Points:

1. You're able to navigate the world with parkour skills

2. Melee combat is quick, brutal, and acrobatic

3. There's weapon crafting

4. There's day and night cycle

2. Project Cars

The Runners up and the game with the second best graphics. Project Cars is an ambitious title that defines photo realistic racing.  The polygon level is enormous and the level of detail breathtaking. I honestly do not need to comment any further because everything is 10/10, or as close it gets with current engines anyways. It is expected to be released in Q2/Q3 2014 and will come to Microsoft Windows, Linux, Steam OS, Wii U, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Spotlight Points:

1. Realistic Environment

2. Cockpit View

1. Witchers 3: Wild Hunt

Witchers 3 is expected to release sometime in 2014 (rumors put it at Q2) and will be an utter graphical Power House. Anyone who has played Witchers 2 will know what i mean. The Witchers series is a Rig Bender and makes even the toughest hardware cry. I have no qualms in saying that even though the game will release for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Microsoft Windows, its graphics will shine the most on PC. The Witchers 3 features unbelievable high textures and very demanding post processing. And that’s not it, all the assets have been created with painstaking detail and the polygon count is enormous. Not only that, but the scale is huge too. An easy Number 1 in our best graphics list.

Spotlight Points:

1. Living open world larger than any other in modern RPG history

2.Requires players to catch a sailboat to some locations and ride by horseback to others

3. Game will have around 80 monsters. The monsters will be unique and have their own AI, special moves and traits

3 Movies you might not wanna miss in 2014

12 Years A Slave

Director: Steve McQueen

Cast:       Chiwetel Ejiofor

                Lupita Nyong'o

               Michael Fassbender

               Sarah Paulson

               Brad Pitt

Many of you might have watched it but who haven't watched it must see it. 12 Years A Slave, by director Steve McQueen, tells the grueling tale of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man in 1800′s New York, who is kidnapped and sold into slavery. It is based on a true story.

The musical score to 12 Years a Slave was composed by Hans Zimmer, with original on-screen violin music written and arranged by Nicholas Britell and performed by Tim Fain. The film also features a few pieces of western classical and American folk music such as Franz Schubert's "Trio in B-flat, D471" and John and Alan Lomax's arrangement of "Run, Nigger, Run".

12 Years a Slave premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2013, before screening at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, the New York Film Festival on October 8, and Philadelphia Film Festival on October 19, 2013.

12 Years a Slave received universal acclaim by critics and audiences, for its acting (particularly for Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o), Steve McQueen's direction, screenplay, production values, and its faithfulness to Solomon Northup's account.

Film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 97% of critics gave the film a "Certified Fresh" rating, based on 258 reviews with an average score of 9/10, with the site's consensus stating, "It's far from comfortable viewing, but 12 Years a Slave's unflinchingly brutal look at American slavery is also brilliant—and quite possibly essential—cinema."

Ejiofor is, in Cinemaddict’s opinion, one of the great actors of our age, so, together with McQueens knack for getting to the uncomfortably pulpy core of human suffering, 12 Years a Slave should be required viewing.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Director: Wes Anderson

Cast:        Ralph Fiennes

                 F. Murray Abraham

                 Mathieu Amalric

                Adrien Brody

                Willem Dafoe

                 Jeff Goldblum

It is inspired by the writings of Stefan Zweig. It stars Ralph Fiennes as a concierge who teams up with one of his employees to prove his innocence after he is framed for murder. “The Grand Budapest Hotel” has become one of the public’s favorite Wes Anderson films. Filled with recognizable stars that often make appearances in his films, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” weaves a plethora of characters through bizarre events in a story within a story within another story while showcasing Anderson’s regular quirky style and fun.

An aging writer (Tom Wilkinson) recounts a story he heard that inspired his popular book. When he was younger (as Jude Law), he met an older gentleman as he was staying at the no longer popular Grand Budapest Hotel. Learning that the gentleman is Zero Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham), the reclusive owner of the hotel, the writer is intrigued by the story of how he came to own the hotel. His tale begins with the start of his career at the Grand Budapest. Zero (Tony Revolori) began a trial period as a lobby boy but quickly becomes the unofficial assistant to renowned, trusted hotel concierge Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes). At the death of one of Gustave H.’s wealthiest patrons (Tilda Swinton), Gustave and Zero are thrown into chaos; Gustave is suspected of murder and faces jail, people go missing, inheritance and wills are disputed by the patron’s disloyal son (Adrien Brody) and an attorney (Jeff Goldblum), and Zero falls in love with a baker (Saoirse Ronan) all while war looms.

Anderson doesn’t milk nostalgia, in the misty-eyed old Hollywood mode, but turns it on its head. We find ourselves situated in a roomy and delectable vision of the past, feeling oddly nostalgic for the present.

The Grand Budapest Hotel has received critical acclaim. Film aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 91% "fresh" rating, with an average score of 8.3/10, based on reviews from 130 critics. The consensus states: "Typically stylish but deceptively thoughtful, The Grand Budapest Hotel finds Wes Anderson once again using ornate visual environments to explore deeply emotional ideas." Metacritic reported a score of 87/100 (citing "universal acclaim"), based on reviews from 42 critics.
