Rembrandt honored with limited-edition Bugatti Veyron
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn is widely recognized as one of the greatest painters and printmakers to have ever lived. No mean feat, to be sure, but why is Bugatti celebrating his life and work with the special-edition Veyron 16.4
Well, it turns out that the supercar maker hasn't suddenly developed a taste for old Dutch masters: the newest car in the six-part “Les Légendes de Bugatti” (“The Legends of Bugatti”) series is named after Rembrandt Bugatti, brother of Ettore and noted sculptor. Rembrandt Bugatti is known for his rather expressive animal sculptures; he created the triumphant elephant seen on the hood of the famous Bugatti Type 41 Royale.
As with the other Legends series models, the Rembrandt edition will be produced in a limited run of three cars. Though Bugatti says each car will cost more than $3,000,000, we don't think they'll have any trouble finding new homes: The first nine Legends series cars have already been spoken for.
The interior itself is light brown -- Bugatti calls the color “cognac” -- and you'll see a bronze-cast tribute to Rembrandt's famous elephant sculpture in the center console.
